Dhaka, 28 November :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given the following message on the occasion of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People :
“On the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Bangladesh joins the international community in reaffirming its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people in their just struggle for inalienable rights. We firmly support the establishment of a sovereign, independent and viable State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Our unflinching support to the Palestinian people was shaped by the powerful dictum of our Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Nevertheless, the country’s Constitution enshrines our principled position to stand by the ‘oppressed peoples throughout the world waging a just struggle against imperialism, colonialism or racialism.’ Indeed, our own struggle for independence in 1971 constantly motivates us to stand against the injustice and tyranny endured by the Palestinian people.
The persistent violations of all international laws by the occupying forces and the sufferings of the innocent Palestinian civilians, including children are blatant disregard to international laws and a shameful failure of the international community. The cycle of impunity coupled with the indifferent attitude of the international community has only encouraged the occupying forces to commit repeated violations of human rights.
We strongly condemn the illegal and belligerent actions against all Palestinians, including the atrocities recently unleashed by the occupying power in the Palestinian Territories. We call for an immediate cessation of the continued aggression, construction of illegal settlements and demolition of homes.
On this day, we urge the international community to work in unison to find a just, peaceful and lasting solution to the Palestinian crisis. We must step up efforts to translate our solidarity with Palestinian people into meaningful action in line with relevant UN resolutions, the Arab Peace Initiative and the Quartet Road Map.
Joi Bangla, Joi Bangabandhu
May Bangladesh Live Forever.”
